Events

As part of program completion, student participants were asked to create a group project that focused on an issue particular to East Asian communities in Canada. For the group projects to make an impact on the community, they were shared at various venues across the Greater Toronto Area and city of Toronto:

Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Asian Heritage Month Secondary Students Symposium

Three program ambassadors at TDSB's Asian Heritage Month Secondary Students Symposium at Central Technical School. The event theme was "Asian Canadian Heritage: Celebrating 150 Years". The program ambassadors spoke about their experiences in developing their community group projects and connected with youth from other schools in the city of Toronto.

York Region District School Board (YRDSB) Asian Heritage Month Event for Teachers and School Administrators

Twelve program ambassadors at YRDSB's Asian Heritage Month event at Richmond Green Secondary School. Their community group projects were relevant to the event's theme, "Honouring Student Voice and Diverse Social Identities," as they focused on issues pertaining to East Asian communities. #AHM2017YRDSB

Thornhill Secondary School's Asian Heritage Carnival

Thornhill SS student participants attended their school's Asian Heritage Carnival. One of the student participants' art projects was displayed in the middle of the school courtyard for other students and teachers to view. This particular project highlighted the lack of proper Asian representation in Western media.

"Live Well, Take Action" Student Celebration

To recognize students for their participation in the "Live Well, Take Action: Ambassador Program for East Youth", a Student Celebration was held at Thornlea Secondary School. Student participants presented their community group projects in an exhibition style and organized the event by working in different teams - food, photography, administration, technology/AV and Masters of Ceremonies. Family, friends, teachers, school administrators, and other members of the community came out to support the new program ambassadors and connect with one another over a hearty dinner.

Fairchild Radio Interview with Amy and Jessica of Richmond Green S.S.

Two program ambassadors and talked about their experiences with Fairchild Radio hosts at the 6pm show. They shared about what they learned and how the program impacted them as students and members of society. They also spoke about their community group project and how they hoped the program will be continued in the future.

YMCA's Newcomer Youth Leadership Development Workshop

Five program ambassadors at the YMCA's Newcomer Youth Leadership Development Program at Dufferin YMCA. During the 2-hour workshop, they participated in the workshop activities with the newcomer youth and then shared about their community group projects, as well as their positive experiences with the program.

ALPHA Education's Peace Fest

Three program ambassadors at ALPHA Education's Peace Fest. Two of them shared about their community group projects while the third co-hosted the Pan-Asian Peace Concert. The event ended solemnly with the Peace Boat Ceremony to commemorate those who have been or are still affected by war.
